For those that know me and in particular, those who have been in my home you will know that my 3 passions are work, music and visual art! Harry grimaces when I come home from a show because it is my greatest weakness (next to really good dark chocolate). He knows that there will be a new piece begging to come into the house that will give me joy each day. Running out of wall space, I now aim to fill up my gardens!
There are a lot of little studios around with paintings that are cute…but none have affected me as much as the Carleton Place Gallery which is in Carleton Place over the bridge, directly on the northwest side of the Mississippi River Bridge, just minutes west of Kanata. Don’t confuse it with shops of nearly the same name as they are just so different.
Why do I love it so ?
- The artists are carefully curated. These are professional artists…not hobbyists.
- The artwork is refreshed monthly so that you can keep going back.
- There is a wide variety of mediums from jewelry, painting, sculpture, digital, wood carvings, textiles and pottery.
- There is also a wide price range making it affordable to own original artwork which can be shared generation to generation.
- There is a wide variety of sizes! Not everyone has large wall spaces in their home that can afford large pieces of artwork. I love that there is such a mix here!! Something for the large AND the small space.
- New guest exhibits appear every 3 weeks in the exhibit section beside the gallery section. I love that there is always something new!!
- The Carleton Place Gallery holds artist-conducted workshops . Coming up in the next few months are a weaving introduction , hammered silver band jewelry, creative exploration of the power of art, art journaling & altered book workshop
- MUSIC!! YES….my beloved music!! Carleton Place Gallery hosts concerts by amazing musicians plus workshops by these musicians. Lynn Miles, for example, is holding a songwriting workshop on May 6th. Also available at the concerts are tasty snacks and beverages from local businesses.
Above and beyond all of the above unique and outstanding reasons to go the the Carleton Place Gallery (remember that name) is the fact that they are so community-minded, working to bring together the best of the region. Last year saw the very first, with resounding success, Carleton Place Riverfront Artscape, organized by the energetic and sooooo-creative owner Ginny Fobert. Hopefully it happens again this summer as it was a “do not miss” event!
Here are some of my personal pieces, that I love, by artists from the gallery. So go and check it out! 210 Bridge St., directly beside the bridge, with great parking!
