Being a realtor in Ottawa means my “office” is usually my car, and my schedule is a mosaic of showings and home inspections. Because I work all over the city, I’m always hunting for the best local haunts to recharge.
Lately, Harry and I have been making a point to turn my “free” mornings into early dates. We’ve crisscrossed the city this past month, and these three spots have officially made it onto our “must-return” list.
1. Carmelito Café
The Vibe: Sophisticated European Getaway
Whether we are at their Preston Street or Barrhaven location, Carmelito feels like a quick trip to Italy. It’s got that polished, vintage elegance—think chandeliers, marble accents, and a pastry display that looks like art.
The Date Factor: It’s a bit more “upscale,” making it feel like a real treat before the workday starts.
What to order: Harry usually sticks to a classic Espresso, but I can’t say no to their authentic biscotti or a fresh crepe.
Realtor’s Take: If I have a client who wants to talk shop in an environment that feels professional yet warm, this is where I take them.
2. Chocomyth
The Vibe: A Moroccan-Inspired Oasis
Tucked away in the Barrhaven/Nepean area, Chocomyth is a total hidden gem. The decor is inspired by Marrakesh and Turkish café culture, featuring beautiful textures and warm lighting that makes the early morning feel extra cozy. It takes Harry and I back to our vacation in Morocco…an all time favourite! (if you are thinking of going to Morocco be sure to give me a call for ideas!)
The Date Factor: It’s incredibly relaxing. It’s the perfect place to sit and actually talk before I start checking my emails.
What to order: You can’t go here and skip the chocolate. Their Belgian chocolate treats are legendary, but their specialty lattes are the real wake-up call. BUT their Basque cheesecake is THE best!! It is a large serving so count on sharing it!
Realtor’s Take: If you’re looking at homes in the south end, this is the perfect “decompression” spot after a long afternoon of viewings.

3. Sofia’s Vintage Motor Café
The Vibe: High-Octane Nostalgia
This might be the coolest spot in Old Ottawa South. Sofia’s (on Bank Street) blends a love for vintage sportscars with serious specialty coffee. Sit & sip beside a vintage Lamborghini, plus two Porsches, a Mercedes with the gullwing doors and a Porsche racecar. At the very front of café is a vintage Fiat that you can even climb into! You should check it out. When owner of Cafe is present you can often get to area behind glass!
The Date Factor: It’s laid-back and unpretentious. It feels like hanging out in the coolest garage in the neighborhood.
What to order: They are very serious about their beans. We tried the Syphon brew—it’s a bit of a science experiment to watch, and the coffee is incredibly smooth.
Realtor’s Take: It’s located in one of my favorite pockets of Ottawa as you are close to my favourite music spot Red Bird Live !
One of the perks of my job is getting to know every corner of this city, and sharing these morning moments with Harry makes the busy weeks so much better.
